Why Japanese？
My name is Yu Du and I am a sophomore at Columbia College. I visited Japan over the summer and stayed there for 10 days. My mother and I both loved Japanese culture and food. Moreover, we were impressed by how kind and polite people are towards each other. The only regret was that I couldn't speak any Japanese other than おはようございます and あぃがとございます. My mother expected me know to some since I watched Japanese anime for many years, but I didn't.
Another reason why I wanted to learn Japanese is that I hope to be able to speak all three East Asian languages Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Since I am from China, I am already fluent in Chinese. I learned Korean last year, and I decided to study Japanese this semester.
The Japanese course I am taking now has a heavy workload. I found it challenging to memorize new vocabularies and hiragana at the same time. Although the course is quite intense, I enjoy the class time a lot and made friends with my classmates. I am excited to learn more Japanese so I can speak more when I travel to Japan next time!

Hello, I’m Yuna ICHISE from Ritsumeikan University. I major international business. I'm taking Chinese class now, but the words I know is quite few. I like Korean drama, artists and food, so I studied Korean language from dramas when I was in high school though I forgot all.

Hello Yuna! Sorry for the late reply! It is the midterm season over here, but thank you for your response. I actually visited Tokyo during my trip to Japan this summer. It is such a unique city filled with culture and history. I am glad that you are taking Chinese! How is the class for you? Do you find it easier because of the similarities between Chinese characters and Kanji? Also, what is your favorite Korean drama?
